

Performance Arts Outreach Program
The Performing Arts Outreach Program is a vibrant and creative initiative that brings the magic of performance and visual arts to students in grades 3 through 12. Designed as an extension of our highly regarded Deb and Gent program, this artistic journey takes participants through a transformative experience. Here's what you need to know about this exceptional program:
Introduction to the Arts:
The program is open to all students aged 8-18 and introduces them to the enchanting world of the performing and visual arts.
Exploring Musical Theatre:
Throughout the program, students will immerse themselves in the captivating elements of musical theatre. This includes learning dance (modern, jazz, contemporary, tap), vocal performance, acting skills, and the art of stage design. Audition information for our productions will be available in the spring of 2026, offering students a chance to showcase their talents and commitment.
Dedication and Discipline:
Participation in this program requires dedication and discipline. Students will learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and collaboration as they work towards being able to perform in front of small or large audiences.

Artistic Dance Instructor
Zaniya Contee
Zaniya Contee, a native of Washington, D.C., has been dedicated to the art of dance since the age of three. Over the years, she has graced some of the nation’s most esteemed stages, including a performance at the historic Kennedy Center with the award-winning Northeast Performing Arts Group. In 2017, she was honored to perform at the White House under the direction of the legendary Debbie Allen. Ms. Contee is a proud graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., where she completed a concentration in Dance (Class of 2019). She now brings her passion, discipline, and artistry to Young Debs Inc., where she is committed to inspiring and cultivating the next generation of young dancers.

Dress Code:

Students are expected to wear:

Girls: black leotards (short or long sleeve) , black leggings or tights, black socks (or ballet shoes)

Boys: Black shorts, black t-shirt, black socks (or ballet shoes)

Street clothes, including jeans, khakis, and tennis shoes, are not acceptable, as they can restrict movement and damage the dance floor.

Students participating in tap will need black tap shoes. No character shoes.
Fundraising and Community Impact:

Our productions serve as major fundraisers for our programs, enabling us to continue supporting students in various capacities.

Our students have delivered awe-inspiring performances in beloved classics like "The Nutcracker," "The Wiz," and "The Lion King." These productions have been favorites among our students and their parents, leaving a lasting impression.

All Are Welcome:
No prior experience in the performing arts is necessary to join. We encourage students who have a desire to perform or are looking to build confidence through the arts to participate.
